OARS: User-Friendly, Cost-Effective

The Online Assessment Reporting System (OARS) is a powerful, easy-to-use, and cost-effective data management system. The focus in OARS is on helping teachers make meaning from complex assessment data, and helping them to identify which students may need intervention, especially in a Common Core, standards-based environment. With powerful reporting features, multiple item banks, online and plain-paper assessment, report cards, grade books, and the professional development module, there’s something for everyone in OARS, whether you’re a teacher, administrator, RtI coordinator, or researcher.

More than 100 school districts, large and small, urban, suburban, and rural, have already discovered how powerful OARS is. And, because we passionately believe that our users’ needs should drive our software development, and not vice versa, we have frequent contact with our clients, and we listen carefully to their needs. Suggestions for new features frequently make their way into new releases of OARS.

If you believe, as we do, that the successful teacher is the one who understands data and knows what to do with it, OARS may be the right tool for your school district.

OARS APRIL EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Veronica Robledo, Office Coordinator
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Employed at Red Schoolhouse for: 10 years

What exactly do you do here?
I wear a lot of hats. I typically handle contracts/accounting and oversee our support staff and the day-to-day operations of the office. I also provide/coordinate technical support to our clients.

Describe your commute to work:
I live nearby so it doesn’t take long. Most people would normally get here in 15 minutes, but with my driving, I get here in 8.

What is your favorite OARS feature?
I’m really torn about this question. Because I have seen OARS grow so much in the last 10 years and every new feature has made such an impact on our users, I feel like I’m cheating if I only choose one. I love all of OARS!

Favorite object on your desk or in your cubicle:
My headphones. I enjoy loud music so I can listen without disturbing others.

What do you typically eat for lunch?
I usually pick up from Baja Fresh, Togo’s or Pollo Loco. I dislike having to make a decision about what to eat each day, so I always go with the same locations.

Favorite quote:
"It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living." ~F. Scott Fitzgerald

Do you have an office quirk, ritual, or habit?
I enjoy a cup of coffee each morning. I can’t start my day without it.

The best part about working at RSH is…
that our team is friendly and down to earth. I’ve made some really great friends, both co-workers and clients.

Shawn Simpson, Senior Software Engineer and Development Manager
Hometown: Canoga Park, CA
Employed at Red Schoolhouse for: 2 years 9 months

What exactly do you do here?
While I spend a good deal of time programming, I work with the Development Team to guide the direction of OARS. I also spend time helping the Support Team with bug reports and correcting those if they exist.

Describe your commute to work:
Stop and go for an hour. I spend most of it on the phone talking to family and friends. It helps pass the time.

What is your favorite OARS feature?
The Progress Monitoring Report was my first project so I have an affinity for that. However, I’m really proud of the Item Creator/Editor. It is a very complex feature, but we did a very good job of making it easy to use.

Favorite object on your desk or in your cubicle:
Picture of my wife and daughter

What do you typically eat for lunch?
Peanut butter and pickle sandwich

Favorite quote:
"Things turn out best for those people who make the best of the way things turn out." -John Wooden
